Advanced sorting of shredded plastics by colour and polymer

A mixture of shredded plastics can limit the material’s value and commercial outlets. Sorting it by colour, polymer or both can produce more homogeneous fractions, with greater value potential and new possible applications.

At SORTPLAST, we develop solutions based on advanced technology to help companies in the recycling industry recover value from their materials.

01 / WHAT WE DO

From one mixture to separate fractions

SORTPLAST develops solutions for sorting shredded plastics by colour, polymer or a combination of both.

Each material is assessed individually to determine the most appropriate separation strategy.

01 / SORTING

Colour sorting

We assess different families of shredded plastics and any target colour, considering shade and appearance and subject to the material’s technical suitability.

02 / SORTING

Polymer sorting

Separation of mixtures by polymer type, always subject to technical assessment and validation.

  • PP
  • PS
  • ABS

03 / SORTING

Combined sorting

Several stages to obtain fractions by colour and polymer. The process sequence is defined after the material has been assessed.

Explore combined sorting

The feasibility of a separation and the results achievable depend on the material’s actual characteristics and must be validated technically.

02 / TOLL SORTING

Your material remains yours

  4. OWNERSHIP

    Still the customer’s

The material and the fractions remain the customer’s property.

You supply the material.
We carry out the sorting.

SORTPLAST provides an industrial toll sorting service. The customer retains ownership of the material before and after sorting, including all resulting fractions.

03 / MATERIALS

Materials we specialise in

Our specialisation in HDPE, PP, PS and ABS relates particularly to polymer identification and sorting. Separation feasibility must be assessed technically for each material.

HDPE

High-density polyethylene

02

PP

Polypropylene

03

PS

Polystyrene

04

ABS

Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene

We can also assess enquiries relating to:

LDPE · PET · PVC · POM · PC · PA · PMMA · PBT
and other engineering plastics.

Discuss another material

For colour sorting projects, we can assess other families of shredded plastics. Tell us about your material and the colour fractions you need to obtain.

05 / HOW WE WORK

Every material requires a different strategy

  1. 01

    Understand the material

We establish its origin, composition and characteristics.

  2. 02

    Define the target fractions

We clarify what you need to separate.

  3. 03

    Assess feasibility

    We examine the sorting options.

  4. 04

    Define the process

We develop a strategy for that material.

  5. 05

    Carry out sorting

We apply the process agreed in advance.

  6. 06

    Obtain the separate fractions

    The sorted material remains yours.

An enquiry sets out the customer’s objective. Feasibility and service conditions are confirmed subsequently through technical assessment.

06 / TECHNOLOGY

Technology applied to sorting

01 / VISION

Colour sorting

High-resolution industrial cameras, controlled lighting and image processing enable the visual characteristics of particles to be analysed.

When the system identifies a particle that needs to be separated, high-speed pneumatic ejection systems may be used to direct it into the appropriate fraction.

02 / SPECTRUM

Polymer sorting

Certain polymers can be separated using spectral detection technologies such as near-infrared — NIR — and other techniques suited to each application.

Different materials exhibit characteristic spectral responses that can be used for identification and subsequent separation.
